Amritsar located in Punjab is the spiritual and cultural center of the Sikh community. It is one of the largest cities in northwest India. The city was founded in the 16th century by the fourth Sikh Guru, Guru Ramdasji, and named after Amrit Sarovar, a sacred tank here. In 1601, Guru Ramdas Ji’s successor Guru Arjun Dev Ji developed Amritsar. He also completed the construction of a grand temple here, which was started by Guru Ramdas Ji. Before the partition of 1947, Amritsar was a city of commercial and commercial importance in undivided Punjab. However, after partition, Amritsar became a frontier city and shares its western border with Pakistan. Today, the business activities of this city are limited to carpets and fabrics, handicrafts, agricultural products, service trade and small machines and equipment. Tourism is a major commercial activity of the region.

Amritsar has many historical gurdwaras. The most important of these is Harmandir Sahib, also known as the Golden Temple. Being an important center of religious faith, about one lakh tourists come here every day from different parts of the world. Apart from this, other pilgrimage sites in Amritsar include Bibekasar Sahib, Baba Atal Sahib, Ramsar Sahib and Santoksar Sahib. Jallianwala Bagh, Maharaja Ranjit Singh Museum, Khairuddin Mosque, Bhatinda Fort, Saragarhi Memorial and Govindgarh Fort, Wagah Border, Durgiana Temple, Temple Mata Lal Devi, ISKCON Temple, Hanuman Temple and Sri Ram Teertha Temple also attracts visitors across the country.
